1. What is the mortality rate? Around half of the children born, die before they are two years old (because of this most parents do not even name their children until they are older than 1 year old).

2. Why do the people of PNG have western/biblical names? When parents name their children they give them a traditional tribal name; they also give them a western name. They give them a western name mainly because of the influence of western culture. The main reason most of these western names are biblical names is because of the names they hear are from missionaries.

3. What is their diet in Moka? The two staple foods in the Moka area are the Sago Palm (the cook the starch found in the trunk) and fish from the river.

4. What diseases and sicknesses are in/around Moka? Some of the diseases and sicknesses in/around Moka TB, malaria, all kinds of cuts and sores, etc.

5. Do the people welcome us? Are they hostile? Do they receive the Gospel when we preach to them? Generally, the Moka people are happy that we have come to them. We have never faced physical hostility from the nationals in the villages. Those who are interested come to hear the Gospel preached; those who are not interested do not come to the meetings.

6. Do the witch-doctors harm us? Not physically, but there is always spiritual/demonic opposition.

7. How do we fly to PNG? The normal route we have taken to PNG since 2013 is Newark, New Jersey – LAX – Brisbane, Australia – Port Moresby, PNG. We are in the air about 24 hours total. We have also flown over the Atlantic and Indian Oceans twice. The earth’s circumference is about 24k miles, PNG is about 12k miles from our home church in NJ.

8. What is animism? Simply put, animism is a world-view that is shaped by the reality, presence, and powers of evil-spirits, which are demons. An animist believes that evil spirits control and manipulate the physical world.

9. How do we travel to Moka? Currently, we fly the single-engine plane 1 hour from the mission compound to the nearest airstrip to Moka (Faia village). We transfer our cargo from the plane to a lumber-compnay pick-up truck and drive 1 mile to the river. Then we transfer our cargo to the boat and travel 4 hours on the river to Moka.

10. How do our kids like living in PNG? They have adjusted very well and they enjoy life on the mission-field. They homeschool and play with the village kids in Moka. They also enjoy traveling on the river with our dog when we go to other villages to evangelize.

11. What kind of wild animals are in the jungles around Moka? Cassowary, wild boar, crocodiles, and, what kills more people than anything else — poison snakes.
